Cycling safety: how to choose the right helmet and protective equipment
Whether you're cycling on the shores of Lake Balaton or trying your hand at tougher terrain, your safety is always our top priority. A good helmet is not only stylish, it can save your life - literally. But what should you look for when choosing the right protective gear?
Helmets are not an option - they are standard equipment!
Our head is the most vulnerable part of our body in a fall. A certified helmet (e.g. EN1078) is made of shock-absorbing material and protects the skull from serious injuries. Choose a model that:
- fits well to the shape of your head,
- adjustable at the neck,
- has ventilation openings,
- and does not weigh down after prolonged use
What is the Tiny Cycling Centre we only offer quality, trusted brands - such as Lazer helmetsthat combine comfort and safety.
Other protective equipment - when and what do you need?
- Gloves: not only gives you a more comfortable grip, but also protects your palm from bruising when you fall.
- Elbow and knee pads: recommended especially for children or for MTB tours. A wrong turn should not be a reason to rest for weeks.
- Visibility vest or reflective accessories: are particularly important for evening, early morning or foggy cycling. The "see and be seen" principle can save lives.
Extra tip: Change your helmet in time!
Even if you don't fall, a helmet loses its shock absorption after 4-5 years due to heat and UV radiation. If you have an accident, the helmet immediately replace it - even if there is no visible damage.
To close: Cycling is liberating, fun and healthy - but only if it's safe. If you're unsure, we'll be happy to help you choose the right protective equipment in person at our Balatonfüred or Akarattya centres!
Ride smart, ride safe!
