Romantic cycling routes for couples around Lake Balaton
Lake Balaton is not only the summer capital of Hungary, but also one of the best places for romantic getaways. If you and your partner want to get away from it all for a while and spend some active time together, then cycling on Lake Balaton is the perfect choice. There are more than 200 kilometres of well-maintained cycle paths around the lake - but we're not encouraging you to do the whole circuit, just romantic stretches that are perfect for a day out or even a long weekend
Balatonfüred - Tihany - Örvényes
This is one of the most popular, yet quieter hiking sections. Starting from Balatonfüred, cycle up to Tihany, where you'll find a fantastic view of the lake past the Benedictine Abbey. The lavender fields fill the air with an intoxicating scent in summer, and a photo on the echoing hill is guaranteed to be memorable. After Tihany, the road leads down to Örvényes, where the water mill, the small hides and the reed bays create a truly intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a picnic.
Balatonakarattya - Kenese - Fűzfő
The first stretch of the east coast is less crowded and ideal for a romantic morning bike ride. Get an early start from Balatonakarattya, where the high shore offers special views. From here it's an easy, shady ride to Kenes and on to Balatonfűzfő. Along the way, there are several stretches of beach suitable for a swim or a rest. In Fűzfő, the small harbour and the forest bobsleigh track add an exciting touch to the tour.
Szigliget - Badacsony - Balatongyörök
If you're not afraid of a little bit of climbing, this is your favourite hike. Almost every kilometre between Szigliget and Badacsony has a wine cellar where you can stop for a spritzer or local cheese. The road winds in the shadow of the tanuki hills, with the blue of Lake Balaton in the background. Badacsony is also worth a longer stop - either for lunch together or for a rest under the vineyards. You can end the tour in Balatongyörök, where the sunset lights at the Szépkilatón lake cover the lake in gold.
Keszthely - Fenékpuszta - Kis-Balaton
This tour is less well known, but all the more special. After Keszthely Bay, the wild landscape of Lake Kis-Balaton follows, with alternating reed beds, birdwatchers and small bridges. The closeness of nature and the silence here are truly relaxing. In Fenékpuszta, the Roman ruins and then the Diás Island nature trail add depth to the hike. For couples who want to get away from the world, this is the ideal choice.

Riding together on a tandem bike makes the bond and the shared experience even stronger. There are several places to hire a tandem bike, such as Balatonfüred and Akarattyá - try it out, it's guaranteed to be a memorable experience!
