Hidden cycle routes in the Balaton highlands - only locals know about them

The Lake Balaton Highlands is one of the most magical regions in the country, and most people visit it mainly in the summer for the beach or for its famous hiking destinations. But the real treasures of the region are often hidden from the ordinary visitor. These hidden trails, quiet villages and panoramic routes are mostly known only to locals - and we're sharing some of them with you.

Tagyon - Szentantalfa - Óbudavár: a panorama in silence

This lesser-known route takes you through the hilly, hilly vineyard landscapes of the Balaton Highlands on low-traffic dingle roads. The section between Tagyon and Szentantalfa is particularly beautiful: on one side, Lake Balaton is blue in the distance, on the other, basalt cones paint the skyline. The tranquillity of the area, the birdsong and the hilly paths are perfect for a relaxing, not too strenuous afternoon ride.

Balatonhenye - Monoszló - Szentbékkálla: in the footsteps of the sea of stones

On this route, you're not only cycling, you're also time-travelling. Starting from Balatonhenye, the route is densely winding, interspersed with shady forest sections, and leads you to one of the most beautiful sights of the Káli Basin, the Szentbékkálla Stone Sea. It's worth stopping for a walk among the huge, mossy stones and then continuing on towards Monoszló, where a short detour takes you to the Hegyestű lookout.

Zánka - Köveskál - Mindszentkálla: among tastes, smells and grapes

This trail is for those who like to combine sport with gastronomic experiences. The section from Zanka is gentle, easy to cycle and offers beautiful views. Köveskál and Mindszentkálla are famous for their local restaurants and wineries, so if you're looking for a break, you're sure to find something tasty here. The homely hospitality and relaxed atmosphere of the region is guaranteed to recharge you - physically and mentally.

Nivegy Valley Circle: the hidden gem of the Balaton Highlands

The Nivegy Valley is a lesser known but all the more beautiful region that stretches around Balatoncsicsó, Szentjakabfa and Zánka. The circuit is ideal for intermediate riders: gently hilly, varied terrain with fields, vineyards and small villages interspersed. Few people know it, so tranquillity is guaranteed. If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy a close-to-nature experience, this is the tour for you.

Tip for hikers

These routes are not only spectacular but also less busy, so they are recommended for beginners and family cyclists. However, it's important to always set off with a bike in good condition and to remember to wear a helmet and hydrate properly.

A Tiny Cycling Centre we'll be happy to help you find the right bike for you, and we can even offer you a tour recommendation if you're looking for a tailor-made itinerary. You can also hire an electric bike, so the hillier parts are no problem.
